Casey DeSmith Makes 37 Saves for Vancouver
The Vancouver Canucks kicked off their 2023-24 season with a dominant 8-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. Sam Lafferty scored the game-winning goal, his first as a Canuck, while Casey DeSmith made 37 saves between the pipes.
Brock Boeser led the Canucks' offensive outburst with four goals, while JT Miller added five points (one goal, four assists). Tyler Myers also chipped in with two assists.
The Canucks outshot the Oilers 38-33 and controlled the pace of play throughout the game. DeSmith was solid in goal, stopping all but one of the Oilers' shots.
The win gives the Canucks a 1-0-0 record to start the season. They will be back in action on Thursday night when they host the Calgary Flames.
